Popcorn Horror Presents Glasgow Horror Fest 2018


Scotland's premier horror and Halloween attraction is returning to the Classic Grand for 2018. Popcorn Horror is bringing a packed two day festival to Glasgow. Bizarre performers, decor and attractions will grace both venues to ensure that the atmosphere remains spooky as we guide you through the Halloween weekend in a truly unique festival which will appeal to horror fans of all generation. In addition, both days have both full line-ups for the main stage, and a convention hub running in the downstairs bar/lounge. It's a Halloween weekend with everything, chilling movies with popcorn, nostalgia, challenge, dancing, convention style speakers and panels, drama, chances to win horror merch costume and raffle prizes. Equally as importantly, meet and interact with folks who love the dark side as much as you do.

* NEW FOR 2018: At 6PM, Saturday evening, a group of sinister hosts will escort guests to STEREO'S Freddy style boiler room for a one-off interactive attraction. Combining silent film with an original live DJ soundtrack, the horror mystery room event will become a mad mix of haunted mannor host, mad science and 80s nightmares. Solve riddles to win prizes, form alliances which enjoying horror soundtracking and stunning vintage visuals. Inn partnership with Scare Scotland and featuring music by Ancient Order of the Droids.*

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27TH:

  • Horror Filmmaking Panel - Stephen King adaption I Am The Doorway's director Simon Pearce- Grant McPhee, distributor with Year Zero Filmmaking : Tartan Features and Whaam Shorts- Mark Paul Wake, producer and actor on Scottish zombie hit Plan Z- Keith Robson, talented creature designer behind the CREEK monster- Hosted by Andrea Louise

  • Short Film Program - A curated collection of some of the best new short scares from across the world. Making Monsters with Taarna Swanson Get behind the scenes and learn about creating the monsters of your nightmares at Glasgow Horror Fest. The amazing Taarna Swanson is leading a demonstration on creating gore and creatures for filmmaking & more!

  • GOTHeatre Productions Present an original horror musical GHOST STORY. When a young, beautiful governess travels to the mysterious house of Ambrose D’Arcy to take care of his son, little does she know of the horror that awaits her. She has only one duty: To read the son a ghost story but very quickly she will realise that truth is often stranger than fiction…

  • Nicoletta Wylde - Afraid of the Dark: What happens to our minds when the lights go out?! In this semi-autobiographical show about living with Night Terrors, Wylde brings her unique brand of surreal and bloody prose-performance to a journey through the monsters in the dark and just how much it takes to vanquish them.

  • Feature Horror Film - Films to be announced after submissions close. (Past films at Glasgow Horror Fest include eerie folk-horror Dogged - The Movie, horror infused documentary Bella in the Wych Elm, Scottish hit The Unkindness of Ravens and the brutal Cruel Summer)

  • THE HOUSE WITH NEON WINDOWS - Moving to Stereo Cafe Bar for this BRAND NEW interactive attraction. Details above. -------

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28TH:

  • Second Short Film Program - A curated collection of some of the best new short scares from across the world.

  • Feature Film + Long-Short: Films to be announced after submissions close.- History of Horror Gaming Video game experts R-CADE will be delivering a talk on the history of horror in video games, exploring it's origins, evolution and future.

  • Live Horror Double-BillBig Puppet Theatre Co. - a new U.K theatre company specialising in staging terrifying Grand-Guignol horror plays for contemporary audiences. Performing new writing, Big Puppet brings to the Glasgow Horror Festival two dark tales of revenge and misfortune as well as visceral body horror, staging gory tortures live on stage. These performances will be blood soaked and scary - this 80s style live DOUBLE BILL not for the faint hearted...

  • Bizarre, bloody burlesque from Roxy Sparks: Demonic nuns, gore and fire come together in a stunning burlesque performance from Roxy Sparks. Bringing shocks to the stage in this outrageously horrific Halloween show that is most definitely for those with a strong nerve!

  • Feature Film + Long-Short Long Short: Dangerous Days Productions THE CHILDISH THING, Psychological horror, directed by Jeremy Herbert and inspired by his experiences with night terrors as a child. Feature Film: Screening as originally intended – William Castle’s House on Haunted Hill is presented in ‘EMERGO!’. Famous for his live theater stunts, the flying skeleton is returning to Glasgow for one night to scare up this iconic film. Also featuring some other bonus Castle-inspired extras including live spooks and nurses on hand to issue guest death warrants!

CONVENTION HUB (Open Throughout)

  • In addition to the main stage and Stereo line-up's, The Classic Grand will be home to a horror hub across both days, with diverse artists and vendors, retro gaming challenges, mini-workshops and indie film and comic exhibits and stalls. Inside the convention hub, you'll find

  • Wide range of artists and vendors offering everything from Halloween munch to folk-horror jewelry, to horror merchandise to gruesome gory home-ware.

  • THE MONSTER BOOTH - CREEK and Wendigo have incredible creature designs. Get up close to check out the effects, ask questions and get amazing photographs with these scary creatures. RETRO HORROR GAMING

  • LIVE MERMAIDS will be swimming around for otherworldly photo opportunities.

  • R-CADE will be managing a booth with a selection of horror video games on retro consoles. Relive those 16-Bit scares from your childhood!

  • Horror Book & Comic StoreBrowse and discover exciting, stand out horror writing and comics in this book and comics area.

  • Halloween Busking Plinth - Spooky music artists performing live Halloween themed songs.
