[Album Review] Pounder 'Uncivilized'

Pounder Uncivilized Album Review

If you’re looking for a thrashy glam metal edge with some Avenged Sevenfold style vocals, you should check out this album. It satisfied my yearning for newer thrash metal with some fast licking guitar work represented on Uncivilized. There was a great mix of influences that were noticeable such as Dokken, Iron Maiden, and Motley Crue that had me banging my head the entire way through. The ballads had a great case of AOR too that I loved hearing incorporated. I appreciate the aesthetics they brought, such as an ominous voice in the shadows reminiscent of Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.

“Fuck Off and Die” started with an ear-splitting guitar intro that quickly took you to high energy thrash was a great way to start the album. This song also stars a chant of “Fuck off and die!” as the song comes to a close to the title track. "Uncivilized" has a great mix of heavy and melodic instruments and the underlying guitar chorus riff is super catchy. I think a lot of guitar junkies will love this tune as there is very diverse and interesting guitar work, in particular I most enjoyed the breakdown before the guitar solo.

"Long Time No Love" and "Answer the Call" are the two ballads on the album. "Long Time No Love" is rockin’ in the styles of Foreigner and Tesla. "Answer the Call" is more mellow and toned down, similar to Bryan Adams and Night Ranger. "We Want the Night" is, in my opinion, this album’s biggest hit. It has lots of the elements we loved about Motley Crue in the 80’s with the chanting an audience can follow along to live, a face melting guitar solo, and the steady drum beat and we throttle along. "The Evil One" closed the album with a high energy vibe from the entire band as a final showcase of their talents.

Listen to "Long Time No Love" below. Uncivilized is now available to pre-order on digital, CD, vinyl and cassette formats from Hells Headbangers and will be released on February 22nd, 2019.
