[EP Review] Haunt 'Mosaic Vision'

Haunt Mosaic Vision EP Review

There’s a Mötley Crüe vibe to this band I think will be appealing once they gain more footing with their songs. The singer sounds young and nasally like on the first few Crüe albums, and they include a twist on every track. Side note: I’m a huge fan of Too Fast for Love, so don’t be deterred. On that note, here’s some “dirt” about the band’s latest EP!

The first track, “Triumph” hits you with a wicked guitar riff before introducing the higher register vocals, almost as high as the band Triumph’s lead singer’s. This song, along with the rest of the album, has a great beat and rhythmic flow. Title track “Mosaic Vision” has a really great intro that sounds like it an 80’s style chorus. If you’re a fan of the 80’s hair bands, you’ll probably really this track a lot. The guitar doubles up yet the pace is still sincere for the verses and I liked this combination a lot. I think the chorus on this is great and makes the song seem bigger. There was an artistic addition to the piece after the first chorus that stuck out to me; it was a nice, unexpected change-up. The guitar solo was very 80’s AOR style and set the mood for the rest of the song I believe, especially when we descended into the mellow outro of the solo and then the outro chorus again.

“In Show of Flames” had an intro that reminded me of Judas Priest’s “Metal Meltdown” from the Painkiller album. There were 3 small parts to this intro alone. I like how they always try to put different little quirks or kinks into these songs as much as possible. It’s cool to pick out something different every time there’s a similar music piece appearing in the song. “In Show of Flames” is faster paced but follows what seems to be the Haunt formula, with a killer guitar solo ready to knock you out. “Callouses” is more of a laid-back, simple rock song. It kind of reminds me of old school Fall Out Boy or some mid 2000’s pop-punk song. This track does feature a quick guitar solo and ends the EP abruptly.
