Farewell iNation, Hello Obsidian: A New Night Of Dark Alternative, Underground, And EBM

Obsidian Liquid Bar Bowling Green

The iNation is dead. Long live Obsidian.

Last week, it was announce that Obsidian, the brainchild of DJ AudioFlesh, will be the new standard for alternative and industrial nights in the Northwest Ohio area. Carrying on after the finale of The iNation this past April, Obsidian promises to introduce the local underground community to new music and tastes, with hints of the classics to keep things interesting.

Those passing Obsidian off as “the new iNation” or “the new goth night” should think again. This night will, as the Facebook event hails, “celebrate the best in dark alternative, underground, and EBM (electro body music) with a focus on newer releases with a hint of the classics.” DJs AudioFlesh (Glitch Mode Recordings), Darks Choir (The iNation), Havok (Broken Glass), and Widget (Broken Glass) will be spinning a collection of all things musically macabre, and all that is asked of the patrons is to come in their blackened best, be it funeral wear, steampunk, cosplay, or whatever you please.

As a three-plus year veteran of the Wednesday night tradition, I personally can’t wait to see what Obsidian brings to us, that perhaps The iNation could not. We may keep an eye to the past, but the show must go on, and Obsidian is bearing the freak flag now.

Obsidian will take place at Liquid Bar (formerly Skybar), located at 238 N. Main Street in Bowling Green, OH, next to Howard’s Club H. There is no cover charge for those 21+, but those under 21 will face a $4 cover charge. For more information, check out The iNation’s Facebook page, and join their “iNation Wednesdays” group on Facebook.
