[Review] 'Creaker' Is A Nostalgic And Darkly Humorous Treat

Vidar Tevasvold Aune Creaker Short Review

You hear the creak of the door first and then the storm. Every young girl recognizes this as the perfect environment for the attack of the night time predator. With the door of her (Astrid Oline Rinnan Green) bedroom opened, the creaks throughout the room insist something hides in the dark. Her only source of protection is her blanket, and her only weapon her flashlight. The sound only moves closer as the beam shines on every vacant hiding place. Suspicion leads to certainty once her protection is stripped away and the blanket disappears without a trace. Now she could be fighting for her life.

Shot in one day with a limited budget, director, producer, and writer Vidar Tevasvold Aune proves that a good story, childhood fears, and a touch of humor creates all you need in a good film.

Clocking in at only four minutes, Aune’s short masterpiece is effective and enjoyable. The atmosphere brings a great sense of nostalgia to the fears we experienced in our own childhood bedrooms. Maybe you'll want to sleep with the lights on.

Creaker is currently making its festival rounds, be sure to check it out if you get the chance!
