[E3 2019] Square Enix Announces 'Final Fantasy VII Remake' Release Date, Set For 2020

The wait is almost over! Square Enix has finally revealed that their Final Fantasy VII Remake, a game that's been years in the making, will launch worldwide for PlayStation 4 on March 3rd, 2020! We were treated to a close look at gameplay and combat and learned the game will span two Blu-ray discs.

And after nearly four years, we get a look at how the remake is presenting Tifa! We also got a look at Marlene (Barret’s adopted daughter) and a confrontation between Cloud and Sephiroth! Check it all out below.

The game will rebuild and expand upon the fan favorite RPG, bringing some exciting new changes to the experience, including:

  • New optional tactical mode

  • Enemies have a focus gauge; if filled, you can stagger your attacks for bonus damage

  • Filling ATB allows you to use Tactical Mode, game slows down and allows you to plan to use abilities

  • Item usage is limited

  • FFVII Remake will be split into 2 Blu-Ray discs worth of content, with Part 1 consisting entirely of Midgar

  • Stagger mechanic is borrowed from Final Fantasy XIII

Additionally, Deluxe and 1st Class Editions of the game have been announced.

Final Fantasy VII Remake tells the story of a world fallen under the control of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a shadowy corporation controlling the planet’s very life force as mako energy. In the sprawling city of Midgar, an anti-Shinra organization calling themselves Avalanche have stepped up their resistance. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to the group, unaware of the epic adventures that await him.
