The Week Before Thanksgiving Features Three Dark Alternative Events In The NW Ohio Area

Audioflesh Obsidian Dystopia

Black Friday can step aside. The next week, the full week before Thanksgiving Day, will be a collection of evil nights together in the Northwest Ohio area. Between Toledo and Bowling Green, there will be three industrial/underground nights that will throw it back to the days of dark alternative past. Dust off the platform boots and lend your ears (well, eyes), cuz this is going to be a lot.

First up, we have Broken Glass this Friday, November 22nd, at Frankie’s Underground (308 Main Street in Toledo, OH). DJs Havok (Obsidian, The iNation) and Widget (Rewired, The iNation) provide the industrial standards, with their own flavors of goth, metal, and electro swing thrown in for good measure. A staple of the local scene since 2013, and named in honor of the Glass City it calls home, Broken Glass has kept the underground scene very much alive in the Toledo area. And with the actual future of the venue in question as of late, this may be the last opportunity to experience Broken Glass as it began, in the basement of Frankie’s for that grungy, literally underground feel. Cover is $3 for 21+, $5 for 18+, and doors open at 10pm. For more information, check out the event on Facebook.

The very next night, Saturday the 23rd, another old classic of the Toledo underground returns for a one night only offering. Dystopia, originated by Icer Rose and Tet von Drunkenberg in 2008, found homes at venues such as Club Midtown and the iconic LGBTQ nightclub Bretz during its run. Once a rare Sunday night offering, the founding DJs will be joined by Evolution, Havok, Darks Choir (The iNation), and AudioFlesh (The iNation, Glitch Mode Recordings) this Saturday at Main Street Bar & Grill (141 Main Street in Toledo, OH). The infamous Pyrophilia Circus will be putting on fire performances throughout the night, further heating up what should be a hot dance floor to begin with. Cover is $5 for 18+, and doors open at 8pm. For more information, check out the event on Facebook.

Finally, on Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 27th, Obsidian will bring its annual Old Skool Night to Liquid Bar (238 North Main Street in Bowling Green, OH). A twenty-year tradition in the home of the Falcons, resident DJs Darks Choir, AudioFlesh, Havok, and Widget will be joined by former resident Sarah Monster for a throwback to the days of the night’s former aliases of IGUN and The iNation. Recently, it was announced that the Wednesday night tradition will be transitioning to a monthly format, making this special event even more of an appointment, be there or be square kind of affair. Cover is free for 21+, $4 for 18+, and doors open at 9pm. For more information, check out the event on Facebook.
