Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?
A major announcement came from 2K Games today, as it is now confirmed that a new BioShock title is in the works. The game's official Twitter let loose the news that Cloud Chamber, a new 2K studio based out of both San Francisco and Montreal, will develop the next installment of the widely-acclaimed franchise.
The official press release indicated that the game will "be in development for the next several years," meaning we won't likely see it on Playstation 4 or Xbox One. Shame as that might be, the fact that we've had no news on the franchise since 2013's BioShock Infinite and the subsequent remasters of the first three titles makes this a major headline for sure.
BioShock is my all-time favorite game franchise, and the first game, even with its off-key second act, stands as my absolute favorite. Even if it doesn't come in the next two years, so be it. The fact that 2K is dedicating an entire studio to the development of this next installment is a good sign that, whenever it comes, the next BioShock will have a great chance of living up to the three titles before it.
But don't just take my word for it. Maybe now would be a good time to go back and revisit Rapture and Columbia. It's your choice, though, as the iconic Andrew Ryan reminds us…
A man chooses. A slave obeys.
BioShock: The Collection, which collects the first three games in the franchise in one package, is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
