Alice Cooper’s new song "Rock & Roll" was cleverly released on Friday, November 13th, 2020. "Rock & Roll" definitely showcases the old school Alice Cooper style, so I’m interested in if the rest of the album will be a huge throwback, since it is referencing his hometown of Detroit! With the release of the album, he confirmed a new album will be released titled Detroit Stories.
The artwork (seen below) for Detroit Stories shows Alice’s spider clown eyes in a Batman-style spotlight over the city. The visual perspective is as if you are walking in the streets of downtown, so the buildings and the sky seem larger than life.
With two quick beats, Alice immediately is singing and the instruments are on the down low with a really groovy beat. The bass by Chuck Garric is highlighted a lot and he really shines throughout the song. The beat led by the drums is simple and steady. I also even hear keyboards too, actually a little more than the guitar. The guitar has a soft 60’s tone, even for the solo, but I love this style.
"Rock & Roll," a classic song by The Velvet Underground from the album Loaded, is a throwback to the 60’s and 70’s, and won’t be similar to what you hear from new rock artists at all. It’s simply more of a refreshing revival of the vintage style. I even got "Cold Ethyl" vibes off of it from his 1974 hit album Welcome to my Nightmare. Alice can still nail it when he sings higher at "FINE FINE music..." Near the end there’s finally a chance for the band to stop holding back and have an awesome jam session and really let loose!
Detroit Stories is expected to be released February 26th, 2021 via earMUSIC.
