Is Backxwash the queer horrorcore hero we deserve? Well, she’s the one we’re getting, and given the strength of her last full-length, God Has Nothing To Do With This Leave Him Out Of It (review), we may have needed to be saved and not known it. The album netted the Canadian artist a Polaris Award, and helped to solidify her standing as one of the most powerful forces in the hip-hop game today.
On her Twitter, Backwash tweeted out what fans guessed was an acronym:
When a follower asked further, she then confirmed the title of her new album, as well as a tentative release date:
In further tweets, Backwash went on to explain that the album is set to be twelve tracks, one of which features frequent collaborator Rook “doing black metal screeches” in the title track. We knew that she’s no stranger to working with metal, as the title track of her previous album sampled “Black Sabbath” by Black Sabbath, from the album Black Sabbath, but I’m personally excited to see what happens when flirting with the forces of the Northern light.
We’ll be keeping tabs on Backxwash and I Lie Here Buried With My Rings And My Dresses, but for right now, mark down May 28th as its release date, and get ready for the Zambian-born witch bitch to bring some major heat before then.
