What’s that? That noise in the distance. Could it be…Dani Filth’s signature demonic shriek?
You’d better believe it. Cradle of Filth has announced their 13th studio album, Existence is Futile, will arrive via Nuclear Blast Records sometime in 2021.
Existence is Futile was recorded at Grindstone Studios with producer Scott Atkins. Atkins also worked on Cradle of Filth’s 2015 album Hammer of the Witches, as well as their 2017 album Cryptoriana: The Seductiveness of Decay.
Not much is known about Existence is Futile, but singer-songwriter Dani Filth had the following to say via the band’s Facebook page:
"It's an absolute killer of an album (if you forgive my self-flattery), with an immense production courtesy of Scott Atkins and Grindstone studios once again, and I'd like to be able to describe it to you but there is so much bubbling intently in this album. Fast and slow parts (and faster still), new delectable flavours and those reminiscent of earlier COF albums galore, massive choruses and melancholic drop-downs, old skool melodic NWOBM amid furious, scathing black metal amid apocalyptic groove and we as a band can't wait for everyone to hear it…. And more importantly, experience our birthed monster live."
Filth also reported that a lack our touring, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, has contributed to the making of Existence is Futile. Being that there was no pressure for a quick turnaround, Filth and his band mates were able to explore the album’s themes at their leisure.
According to Filth, this is their best album to date.
Along with a global pandemic, 2020 also saw the departure of Cradle of Filth’s keyboardist Lindsay Schoolcraft. Schoolcraft’s replacement is yet to be announced.
