One of the most entertaining indie games I've played in years is Devolver Digital and Phobia Game Studio’s Carrion, a simple-yet-effective "reverse horror" game that takes obvious inspiration from John Carpenter's The Thing.
Following Carrion's release back in July, award-winning composer Cris Velasco (Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Bloodborne, Darksiders) has partnered with Materia Collective to release the original soundtrack to the game on vinyl.
"Velasco’s 25-track album captures Carrion’s creeping dread and otherworldly terror with darkly atmospheric music punctuated by moments of violent intensity."
The two-LP set is available in two colorways: a Standard Edition with red-and-black smoke vinyl, and a "blood-filled" Limited Edition!
This is a made to order release and there is a two-week pre-order window, which closes on November 20th, 2020, at 11:59pm Pacific Time, or when all units are sold out, whichever occurs first.
The Standard Edition is limited to 1000 units and priced at $39.99, while only 50 copies of the Limited Edition are available, priced at $666. Materia Collective warns that orders with more than one Limited Edition will be canceled and refunded, and the "buyer sacrificed to a red, amorphous, tentacled monster." These are expected to ship in 2021.
"The score to Carrion is unlike anything I’ve written before," says Cris Velasco. "While there are still melodic moments of grandeur and even beauty, the majority of the score is quite dystopian. You play as the monster in this reverse horror game. No one gets out alive, and the music won’t let you forget. The score is the monster’s inner dialogue. It should fill you with dread, helplessness, and the feeling that an unknowable malevolent entity could take you at any moment."
