Pandemic be damned, Rabbit Junk is taking 2020 by the balls. Their first single “Bits and Razors” from their upcoming disc Xenospheres blew the door off the hinges, and while it may be summertime before we get new music from the Seattle industrial duo, the band is breaking new ground, getting their music into other media. The newest trailer for The Ascent, an upcoming action RPG developed by Neon Giant, features the band’s track “Become Hell,” from their 2018 album Rabbit Junk Will Die: Meditations on Mortality.
The Ascent takes place in the cyberpunk world of Veles. The player is a worker for The Ascent Group, which one day mysteriously tanks and leads to mass panic. Now without a lease on life, your mission is to figure out what caused the sudden blackout and take back control, as competitors and the underground crime world attempt to make the most of the situation.
The reveal trailer looks incredible, with an aesthetic informed by the best of modern science fiction, namely Blade Runner. The top-down, isometric gameplay looks like a futuristic Diablo, and the world of Veles looks advanced, yet restrained. And if Rabbit Junk on the soundtrack is any indication, the music over this dystopian backdrop will be the finest of dark electronic fare.
As of this writing, the game is due out later this fall for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
