Well, it was only a matter of time until something on my upcoming horror films in 2021 list ended up delayed yet again, but I figured it would hold up till at least spring.
Escape Room 2, the sequel to 2019’s surprise hit film based around the group game craze (review), has found itself delayed once again. First it was slated for April 2020, then August 2020, then to New Year’s 2021, then eventually “sometime in 2021.” Now, it’s been bumped from this calendar year altogether, with a new tentative release date of January 7, 2022, because we’re really not meant to a) get through this damn era of Pandemia or b) have nice things.
The original film had a small budget of just $9 million, and grossed over $150 million in its theatrical run, so a sequel was bound to happen, but of course, the world had other plans. Frankly, I’m excited to see what they do with the film, considering two main characters from the first film are returning, but we’ll be waiting until next year to see how things unfold.
And that’s if we’re fortunate.
