Evanescence Return to the Fold with "Wasted On You"

At the turn of the millenium, Evanescence helped bring a symphonic, operatic edge to popular music with their hits such as “Bring Me to Life,” “Sweet Sacrifice,” and “Lithium.” The powerful classical vocals of Amy Lee bring a polish to the often gritty and raw nu metal and alternative metal genre, and kicked off a generation of acts that tried to capture the same magic, to varying degrees of success.

Following the more composition- and reimagining-heavy Synthesis, which saw the single “Imperfection,” fans have been waiting for a proper studio release. In the lead-up to Gears 5, the band covered Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” and said cover featured in advertisements for the game. Last week, the band announced The Bitter Truth, their fifth studio album, which the band intends to share piece by piece, as mentioned on their Facebook page.

The first piece, “Wasted on You,” was unleashed this past Friday, with the music video for said track a product of social isolation under the direction of P.R. Brown. No proper release date has been set for the new album, but reports suggest that the band is working with multiple producers for a more varied sound. One such producer is Nick Raskulinecz, who produced their heavy 2011 self-titled disc.
