First Image Released for Chilean Black Metal Horror 'Invoking Yell'

The metal-horror subgenre has always been one of my absolute favorites, with films like Deathgasm, Strangeland, Trick or Treat, and The Devil's Candy placing very high on my list of best-loved films of all time, so when I hear about a new horror film that falls within the subgenre's trappings, I'm almost immediately on board.

Screen Daily reports this week that director Patricio Valladares (Hidden in the Woods, Nightworld) has wrapped production on his Chilean black metal horror movie Invoking Yell. The source also shared our first look at the film, seen above.

Set in 1997 South of Chile, Invoking Yell follows a trio of metalhead twenty something girls venture into the woods to shoot their demo tape for their black metal band, Invoking Yell, while also documenting the eerie and unsettling process of recording psicofonias in the woods for the final track.

Macarena Carrere (Trauma), Maria Jesus Marcone, and Andrea Ozuljevich star in the film. Valladares and Barry Keating (Downhill) wrote the screenplay back in 2022.

Production took place in Los Lleuques, Ñuble.

The film is co-produced by Vallastudio Films and Moral Bros Entertainment. Diego Moral Heimpell (Redeemer) is executive producer. Vittorio Farfan and Valladares serve as producers.

Valladares intends to get Invoking Yell onto the festival circuit next in 2023. Be sure to stay tuned for more details! We'll be following this one closely.
