Gimme Metal Vinyl Club's July Release Features Darkthrone's 'A Blaze in the Northern Sky'!

Last month, the Gimme Metal Vinyl Club featured the re-issue of Cancer's 1990 debut album, To the Gory End, and they've now revealed their July release will feature the re-issue of Darkthrone's classic album A Blaze in the Northern Sky!

This edition of A Blaze in the Northern Sky coincides with the 30th anniversary of the seminal album’s release and will be pressed on Gimme exclusive Transparent Blue vinyl, which is a very strange color choice for a Black Metal release, if you're asking me. But hey, beggars can't be choosers.

A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Darkthrone's sophomore album, was originally released in 1992 and was without question the blueprint for the Black Metal scene, spearheading the evolution of the early second wave movement in Norway and beyond. It was hailed on release as an album of true scene-shifting greatness, following their more death metal focussed debut, Soulside Journey.

The rawness apparent on the album (recorded at Creative Studios, the same location as Mayhem's legendary Deathcrush was put to tape), was unusual for the time and an antithesis to the usual metal production values & standards during the period. With this, Darkthrone's statement of attitude and intent was clear, and their status as masters of Norwegian black metal was set.

The re-issue's targeted release date is July 15th, 2022. June 30th is the last day to sign up for this release, if you plan on securing a copy for yourself. So act fast!
