Gothic Rock Revivalists Astari Nite Honor The Voices No Longer Heard with "All Else is a Curse"

As in vogue as it may be to say “fuck 2020,” it is just as appropriate to remember those who are unable to join us in this new year, many of whom were lost to this damn pandemic. We lost so many in the last year, and while death may be a part of the human condition, uncomfortable as that fact is to deal with, the living must cope. Such is the idea behind the newest song by post-punk outfit Astari Nite, “All Else is a Curse.”

The new track is one that honors the voices we’ve lost. The idea came after recent listens to artists such as ABBA and David Bowie. Says vocalist Mychael Ghost about the track:

“In essence I fell in love with a lot of laughter and simple conversing during these engagements.

Often, I would slide away in thought during these times only to be reminded of voices I might never hear again. Feeling merry and magical, Astari Nite began tracking for our next catalog of songs and in an instant “All Else is a Curse” became my new obsession.

As melancholy as I may appear, I am carelessly smiling deep inside. The more I dwell on who or what moment in time this song is about, I like to believe that sadness is an artform and as cliché as it may sound, it meant everything to me.”

Sonically, the song is bleak goth-rock, a swaying anthem of loss and longing. It’s a painful, beautiful track with overlapping vocal melodies and ringing guitars. Just as their music reaches out to an era long gone, this song in particular extends a hand to the past, if only for one fleeting moment of reunion and nostalgia.

The band is working on the follow-up to their album Here Lies, which released on Negative Gain Productions last spring.
