Richmond’s favorite sons, the Southern kings of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, Lamb of God are approaching the release of their self-titled eighth album. A few weeks back, they called “Checkmate” with a blistering single, showing that even with a change behind the drum kit, they have lost nary a step. Earlier this week, the band released a second cut from the new digs, “Memento Mori,” complete with a horrific music video and a surprisingly atmospheric intro.
Vocalist D. Randall Blythe uses his lower tones in said intro, utilizing clean vocals before the rest of the band kicks in, going right back to LoG’s usual M.O. of fancy fretwork and Blythe’s mid-screaming ways. While new drummer Art Cruz may not necessarily match the flair of ex-skinsman Chris Adler, his style has meshed with Lamb of God’s well thus far.
