Lamb of God look to remind everyone why they were one of the foremost of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal in the '90s with their self-titled eighth album. Unfortunately, the band has opted to push the disc’s release back several weeks to June 19th, 2020, following the trend of many artists in the mainstream. Originally due out on May 8th, the album will be the studio work debut of drummer Art Cruz, and the band’s first original material since 2015’s VII: Sturm und Drang.
To make up for the delay, the band has unleashed the album’s third single, “New Colossal Hate,” a mid-tempo thrasher with plenty of riffage to spare. Never ones to stray away from political imagery, the lyrics of the track conjure images of a defiled Lady Liberty, the top one percent shutting out the masses, and the undoing of America as we know it, pandemic aside. Where the previous single “Memento Mori” was a bit different than the fare we’ve grown accustomed to, though a fine track in its own right, “New Colossal Hate” feels much more like quintessential Lamb of God.
