Within the last year, WWE NXT has set out to revive some of the Pay-Per-View events of the past by way of both their weekly television and their TakeOver specials on the WWE Network. In 2020, we got TakeOver: In Your House, The Great American Bash, Halloween Havoc (which also had the “Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal” gimmick for two championship stipulation matches), and this year opened with New Year’s Evil.
Now, for the black and gold brand’s first proper TakeOver of 2021, the brand has revived Vengeance, a Pay-Per-View name which ran from 2001 (when it replaced Armageddon, which was considered to be in poor taste following the events of 9/11) to 2007, the last year of which was Vengeance: Night of Champions. The name was also used in 2011, making this year’s TakeOver: Vengeance Day the first in a decade for this branding.
As of this printing, only one match has been announced for the show: a Triple Threat Match for the NXT Women’s Championship, as titleholder Io Shirai defends against Toni Storm and the recently-returned Mercedes Martinez. While it is assumed that both the men’s and women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournaments will factor into the event, this has not been confirmed just yet.
NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day will air on the WWE Network on Sunday, February 14th, beginning at 6:30pm EST for the kick-off show, with the main card beginning at 7pm EST.
