NXT 'TakeOver: Vengeance Day' Gets Two Title Matches And Two Tournament Finals Added To The Card

This past Wednesday, ahead of their weekly TV episode, NXT announced the name of their thirty-third TakeOver event as Vengeance Day. Before the show aired Wednesday night on the USA Network, only one match had been confirmed for the show, though several more had been speculated, given the date for the show (February 14th) being announced weeks prior.

Following Wednesday’s NXT, we know four more matches that will be taking place at the event, though the participants of two of those contests have yet to be properly determined.

In matches we know are happening, NXT Champion Finn Balor will answer the challenge of “The Bruiserweight” Pete Dunne. This will be Dunne’s first opportunity at the NXT Title since Survivor Series 2019, when he fell to then-champion Adam Cole. Further down the card, NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano will defend his title against Kushida, in the Japanese sensation’s first title opportunity at a TakeOver show.

Both the men’s and women’s iterations of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament will conclude at Vengeance Day, with the winners receiving chances at the NXT Tag Team and WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, respectively. This coming Wednesday will see MSK vs. Legado del Fantasma (side bar, congratulations to Joaquin Wilde and his partner on their new baby) and Timothy Thatcher and Tommaso Ciampa vs. Grizzled Young Veterans to determine the finalists for the men’s tournament. Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart will face Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell of The Way to determine the finalists for the women’s tournament, opposite Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez.

Previously announced for the show was a Triple Threat for the NXT Women’s Championship, pitting Mercedes Martinez and Toni Storm against current titleholder Io Shirai.

NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day will air on the WWE Network on Sunday, February 14th, beginning with the kick-off show at 6:30pm EST. The main card will begin at 7pm EST.
