Primus Set to Pay Tribute to Rush with "A Tribute to Kings" Tour

Primus A Tribute to Kings Tour

In the latest announcement of summer tours we didn’t know that we needed, funk-metallers Primus have announced a very special outing. The upcoming “A Tribute to Kings” tour will see the trio pay tribute to the gods of progressive rock, Rush, as Primus will play the iconic A Farewell to Kings album front to back, along with some of their classic tunes.

The tour was originally slated for this past fall, but when Slayer came calling for Primus to support them on their Final Campaign tour, Les Claypool and Co. answered the call, and held off on the tribute tour until now. This tour is made a bittersweet one, given the recent passing of Rush drummer Neil Peart last month, following a quiet battle with brain cancer.

This won’t be the first time that singer/bassist Les Claypool has paid tribute to the prog rock powerhouses of yesteryear. With his Colonel Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade (try saying that one three times fast), he covered the Pink Floyd classic Animals. While it was “an insane amount of work,” the frontman claims it was “one of the most enjoyable live endeavors I’ve ever done.”

Wolfmother has been tapped to support the entirety of the tour, with The Sword and Battles more or less splitting the dates down the middle for their respective support.
