Even the ongoing pandemic couldn’t mitigate some of the fallout from this year’s shortlist announcement for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but if there’s any upside, we have a few great nominees in the hard rock and heavy metal world to root for. Among this year’s list are Rage Against the Machine and Iron Maiden, two very different bands from two very different ends of the rock and roll spectrum.
While this is not RATM’s first time on the shortlist, it is the first time ever that Iron Maiden, arguably the cornerstone of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), have been up for nomination. It’s also worth noting that Foo Fighters are on this year’s shortlist, and if they get the nod, it would make frontman Dave Grohl a two-time inductee.
The full shortlist reads as follows:
Mary J. Blige
Kate Bush
Devo
Foo Fighters
The Go-Go’s
Iron Maiden
JAY-Z
Chaka Khan
Carole King
Fela Kuti
LL Cool J
New York Dolls
Rage Against the Machine
Todd Rundgren
Tina Turner
Dionne Warwick
From now until the end of April, fans can go to www.rockhall.com and vote once per day on the nominees. The final list of inductees will come out this May, with the induction ceremony happening at the Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH this fall.
