Where the previous installment in the franchise leaned heavily on horror villains such as Jason Voorhees and Predator for its guest roster, Mortal Kombat 11 went the action hero route, thus far recruiting Robocop and Terminator to join the time-traveling tiffs in the iconic fighting game franchise. The formal announcement of Rambo for the upcoming Ultimate expansion came out of nowhere, especially given the last film’s underwhelming performance (Last Blood saw $91 million box office against a $50 million budget), but thanks to a return to the iconic character design and voiceover work by Sylvester Stallone himself, the Vietnam veteran John Rambo is ready to bring his superior skills to kombat.
In his gameplay trailer, we see Rambo utilize his combat knife, bow and arrow, and grenades to take on fighters such as Kabal and Johnny Cage. His low Army crawl is used as an escape for mid and high attacks, allowing him to close the distance between a far away opponent and himself. In a tussle with The Terminator, we see the cyborg unload his machine guns on a prone Rambo, only for a counter to be followed by Rambo going full gonzo with two automatics for maximum carnage.
His slash and stab-heavy Fatal Blow is capped off with an explosive arrow, before we see one of Rambo’s Fatalities. After throwing his knife into the opponent’s chest, the victim triggers a trap, levering up two spikes to impale them through the torso, before Rambo proceeds to rip the foe’s throat out as the cinematic cuts to slow-mo.
Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate drops on all platforms on November 17th.
