To call William Patrick “Billy” Corgan a busy man is something of an understatement. In addition to serving as president of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), the frontman and mastermind behind The Smashing Pumpkins has been working with his band on the follow-up to 2018’s Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1. Said follow-up, named Cyr, will be a double album consisting of twenty songs in total, due out on November 27th on Sumerian Records.
Earlier this month, we covered the first two songs from Cyr, the title track and “The Colour of Love.” Now, the band have released two new songs, “Confessions of a Dopamine Addict” and “Wrath.” The former is more electronically informed, with less of a presence from the guitars and an overall lighter, ethereal feel. It is, however, very much in the melancholy (or rather, Mellon Collie) vein that the band tap into all too often. The latter of the new tracks is more rock-driven, though a modern alt-rock sensibility keeps it moving along.
