Following Microsoft's release date and pricing announcement for their Xbox Series X and Series S, Sony has today revealed that the PlayStation 5 will hit retail in seven key markets, the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea, on November 12th, while the global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world.
Much like the next generation of Xbox, the PlayStation 5 will be available in two varieties, a base PlayStation 5 system that features an Ultra HD Blu-ray compatible optical disc drive for physical game support, and a lower-end digital-only variant.
Sony has priced the base unit at $499 USD, and the all-digital version at $399 USD.
"We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming," said Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, via the PlayStation Blog. "Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s."
In addition to the console price and release date, Sony also revealed prices for some of their accessories, including $70 for a standalone DualSense wireless controller, $60 for and HD Camera, and $100 for a Pulse 3D wireless headset.
Lastly, Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios also revealed their lineup of PS5 launch titles, including Astro’s Playroom, Demon’s Souls, Destruction All Stars, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy A Big Adventure. Game prices range from $50 to $70.
Now that everything's out in the open when it comes to the next generation of gaming, which system will you be going with at launch?
