Static-X's 2009 Cover of Mötley Crüe's "Looks That Kill" Has Resurfaced On Streaming Services

Even after the release of their comeback album Project Regeneration Vol. 1 (review), new music and deep cuts from Static-X are still rolling in, giving us more pleasant surprises in this year. “Looks That Kill” is an addition to the other covers previously released on alternate versions of their 2009 album Cult of Static. “Still of the Night” by Whitesnake was featured on the iTunes edition of the album, while “Talk Dirty to Me” by Poison was a bonus digital-only download for those who purchased the special edition.

The intro is very guitar-heavy until the verse kicks in. The bass and drums intensify to really add depth and grittiness to the song. The raspy vocals complete the ensemble for this Eighties metal classic. The guitar work is re-worked a little for the chorus, but it flows great with the dynamic of this version. The guitar solo was spot on and still original with the personality of the guitarist coming through. It has a Too Fast for Love vibe to the style of playing too. I have to say I prefer the original Mötley Crüe outro to this version; the end seems to have a harder punch. That said, I definitely enjoy this version a lot.
