The joke never dies, and it sure didn’t dry up either, as the water-controlling Edenian demigod Rain is returning to kombat.
Rain is coming to the Ultimate expansion of Mortal Kombat 11, and for his first playable foray since the 2011 series reboot, we now have a gameplay trailer for the purple-clad royal himself.
In his newest iteration, Rain wields a jamadhar, a three-bladed weapon that could remind some of Voldo’s manas & ayus, with the addition of the middle blade being retractable. With this and his expanded powers, including opening water portals and shifting into an invulnerable liquid state, Rain’s moveset is now more reminiscent of a deity than ever before. The yellow-tinged hydrokinesis is used for a couple of Krushing Blows, making him a dangerous and unpredictable foe.
His new Fatal Blow uses kicks, his jamadhar, and pressurized water in the form of spears to overwhelm the opponent (here, Kotal Kahn). Rain’s trailer Fatality is a watery vortex of skin-tearing, bisecting violence, with the slow-mo ending coming in the form of capturing the foe’s eyes in a bubble. You know, for science.
Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate will be available on November 17th on all platforms.
