Dutch symphonic metal ambassadors Within Temptation were set to embark on a dream Worlds Collide tour with Evanescence, and then, well, we all know what happened. Tentatively, that run has been postponed until September, but in the meantime, the two acts have been promoting upcoming albums. Recently, I covered Evanescence’s new single “Wasted on You,” from their upcoming album The Bitter Truth, and not to be outdone, Within Temptation have released their newest track, “Entertain You.”
The new single has a more radio-rock feel than most of their previous work, and normally that would be a slight against them. Even the lyrics are a bit more confrontational and “up yours” than typical WT, with the first line of the chorus stating plain as day, “Go to Hell, I’m not here to entertain you.” Somehow, this deviation from what we’re used to hearing from the band is working, building off what we heard in last year’s smash hit record Resist.
By all accounts, this track will indeed be on an upcoming album. While no dates, title, or cover art have been unveiled yet, this first taste suggests an edge to any new music the band may make, and that is very much welcome.
