The next WWE Network event has undergone a name and image change, as the July event usually known as Extreme Rules is now being billed as The Horror Show at Extreme Rules. Set to take place in the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL on a closed set, the event is a hardcore-heavy affair, with at least one match held under “Extreme Rules,” in which there are no disqualifications or count outs, and the use of foreign objects is not only allowed, but encouraged.
One of the marquee matches will see reigning Universal Champion Braun Strowman battle his former friend Bray Wyatt, who has swapped out his Fiend gimmick for his former cult leader persona, in what is billed as a Wyatt Swamp Fight. While the match is a rematch from their encounter at Money in the Bank, which saw Strowman turn back the offer to rejoin Wyatt, the Wyatt Swamp Fight is not for Strowman’s Universal title.
Given the show’s theme, several other matches on the card will see some sort of hardcore stipulation. Given the rivalry between WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks and Smackdown Women’s Champion Bayley (aka Bayley Dos Straps) against Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss, a special stipulation might be added to the Smackdown Women’s title match between Bayley and Cross.
WWE Champion Drew McIntyre deferred the choice of stipulation for his defense against Dolph Ziggler to his challenger, and while a major title match tends to get the Extreme Rules stip, the match has very little real momentum, so it could be the Smackdown ladies that get the Extreme Rules nod.
As of this printing (before the July 6th episode of RAW), the confirmed matches for The Horror Show at Extreme Rules are as follows:
RAW Women’s Championship
Asuka (c) vs. Sasha Banks
Smackdown Women’s Championship
Bayley (c) vs. Nikki Cross
WWE Championship - Stipulation TBD
Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler
Wyatt Swamp Fight - Non-Title
Braun Strowman vs. Bray Wyatt
The Horror Show at Extreme Rules will air live on Sunday, July 19th on the WWE Network, beginning in 7pm EST.
