We've shared quite a bit of "Ghoulish" Gary Pullin's artwork here at CryptTeaze and why wouldn't we?! He's one Hell of a great artist! One of, if not THE best horror artist in the biz! So We are happy and honored to report on the news of his new retrospective book that will be releasing next year!
Ghoulish: The Art of Gary Pullin is set to release on May 8th from 1984 Publishing. The book is written by April Snellings and will be available in several deluxe versions and a standard edition. "Cleveland, OH—On Friday, November 8, the Cleveland, Ohio-based 1984 Publishing will begin taking pre-orders for both the regular and deluxe version of its fifth book, Ghoulish: The Art of Gary Pullin. Due May 8, 2018, the 208-page, full-color, lavish hardbound book is a comprehensive retrospective of artist and illustrator Pullin's vivid career.
Ghoulish features his iconic alternative movie posters for beloved films, including horror classics (Halloween, Friday the 13th, Scream, Creepshow)and cult favorites (The Big Lebowski, Re-Animator, Monster Squad). In addition to spotlighting collectible pop culture movie posters, Ghoulishincludes a range of Pullin's magazine covers, special edition Blu-Ray packaging, album covers, enamel pins and monster-based illustrations.
"This book covers it all—from my early years as a budding artist and horror film fan and my thirteen-year stint at Rue Morgue magazine as their original art director to the present day, which finds me owning and operating my own company, Ghoulish Gary," Pullin says. "I hope you enjoy reading my story and taking in the artwork as much as I enjoyed creating it. Perhaps it will inspire you to carve out your own path."
Ghoulish is written by April Snellings (project editor for Rue Morguemagazine and a 2017 Rondo Horror Award winner), while Rue Morgue co-owner David Alexander will serve as editor. The book also includes forewords by Rob Jones, the co-founder of Mondo and a visual artist known for his work with The White Stripes, and Independent Spirit Award-winning horror director and actor Larry Fessenden.
The regular version of Ghoulish retails for $29.95 USD and will be available online via Amazon and local bookstores worldwide. Two deluxe, limited-edition versions of the book, each of which retail for $39.95 USD, will also be available:
a signed copy of Ghoulish packaged with a 12-inch exclusive single by the legendary progressive rock band Goblin. The LP, which is housed in a jacket featuring exclusive Pullin artwork, contains newly remastered live versions of their classic themes to Suspiria and Dawn of the Dead. Only 500 copies of the single will be pressed, split between two variants: 300 "stained glass" transparent blue + 200 "stained glass" transparent red. Fans can pre-order this version online at 1984 Publishing’s site on Wednesday, November 8 at 1 p.m. EST.
an Amazon-exclusive version (limited to 100 copies) featuring a signed 3D print of Children of the Corn by Pullin and special branded 3D glasses.
