Vinegar Syndrome's October Blu-ray Releases Include 'Blood Harvest' And 'Def By Temp

Today, Vinegar Syndrome detailed four new horror Blu-ray releases that they have planned for this Halloween. Blood Harvest, Def by Temptation, The Incubus, and The Killing Kind will all be available on October 30th.

BLOOD HARVEST

“Jill has just returned home from college to the rural farm community where she grew up, only to discover that her parents have mysteriously vanished. Learning that her father, a banker, has become the local pariah for overseeing land foreclosures on local farmers, Jill quickly becomes the victim of a series of strange and increasingly depraved assaults. With only her childhood friend and former lover, Gary, and his mentally unstable brother, Mervo (Tiny Tim), willing to believe her, Jill begins to fear for her life. All the while, a stocking-masked killer is abducting, torturing, and brutally killing those closest to Jill…

An unrelentingly grim and perverse psycho-sexual thriller, BLOOD HARVEST mixes gruesome throat slashings, copious amounts of T&A, and an unhinged supporting performance from music sensation, Tiny Tim. Long available only in heavily cut and grey market editions, Vinegar Syndrome proudly presents BLOOD HARVEST on Blu-ray, fully uncut, uncensored, and newly restored in 4k from its recently discovered original camera negative.”

Features Include:

• Region free Blu-ray/DVD combo • Newly scanned & restored in 4k from its 16mm original camera negative • Brand new commentary track with producer and co-writer Leszek Burzynski • Tiny Tim in Niagara Falls (September 3rd, 1987) • Booklet with essay by Tiny Tim biographer Justin A. Martell • Reversible cover artwork • English SDH subtitles

DEF BY TEMPTATION

“Joel (James Bond III) grew up in the church but has started questioning his beliefs. After sensing a supernatural presence from his deceased father, Joel becomes compelled to visit his cousin, K (Kadeem Hardison) in New York. But shortly after arriving, he and K become embroiled in a series of mysterious homicides of local men, all of whom were last seen in the company of a mysterious and beautiful woman, who has now set her bloodthirsty sights on K…

The sole directorial effort from child actor James Bond III, who also wrote, produced, and starred, DEF BY TEMPTATION is a macabre, neon tinged portrait of late 80s Brooklyn, blending supernatural horror and religious mysticism, punctuated by an electrifying hip hop and R&B soundtrack. Featuring an early performance from Samuel L. Jackson alongside character actor Bill Nunn (DO THE RIGHT THING) and exquisite visuals from one of the late 20th century’s most gifted cinematographers, Ernest Dickerson (JUICE), Vinegar Syndrome brings DEF BY TEMPTATION to Blu-ray, newly restored from its original 35mm camera negative.”

Features Include:

• Region free Blu-ray/DVD combo • Newly scanned & restored in 2k from its 35mm original camera negative • Brand new career-spanning audio interview with writer/producer/director/actor James Bond III • “Ernest & Lloyd” – a candid conversation between cinematographer Ernest Dickerson and Lloyd Kaufman • Film historian and critic Michael Gingold on Def By Temptation • Original trailer • Archival article gallery • Reversible cover artwork • English SDH subtitles

THE INCUBUS

“A quiet New England town becomes the site of a grisly murder and assault, leaving a young man dead and his girlfriend in critical condition. Sam Cordell, head surgeon and medical examiner at the local hospital, senses something isn’t quite normal about the attacker, but barely a day later, another woman is savagely assaulted and killed. With the realization that a maniac is on the loose, Sam, with the help of police chief Hank Walden and newspaper columnist Laura Kincaid, must unravel the mystery before additional murders occur, all the while unaware that Sam’s own daughter, Jenny, might be next on the victim list…

An intense and disturbing supernatural slasher, John Hough’s (LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE, AMERICAN GOTHIC) THE INCUBUS stars acclaimed actor and filmmaker John Cassavetes (A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE), John Ireland (THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME) and Kerrie Keane (SPASMS) in her feature film debut. Stylishly photographed by Albert J. Dunk (CLASS OF 1984) and scored by Stanley Meyers (THE DEER HUNTER), Vinegar Syndrome brings this 80s terror classic to Blu-ray for the first time.”

Features Include:

• Region free Blu-ray/DVD combo • Newly scanned & restored in 4k, mostly from its 35mm negative, with one reel sourced from a 35mm print • Interview with director John Hough • Interview with lead actress Kerrie Keane • Interview with cinematographer Albert J. Dunk • Trims and alternate shots • Original theatrical trailer • TV spots • Commentary track with The Hysteria Continues! • Reversible cover artwork • English SDH subtitles

THE KILLING KIND

“After being released from prison for a brutal assault in which he too was a victim, Terry returns home to his mother’s (Ann Sothern) boarding house. Unable to cope with his freedom and uncertain about how to appease his ever growing desire to harm those around him, Terry finds solace in playing violent practical jokes. But when an attractive young woman (Cindy Williams) moves into the boarding house, Terry finds himself overpowered by violent impulses and, in a fit of rage, accidentally murders the woman. Now engulfed by bloodlust, it’s not long before he begins seeking out more victims…

A brooding study on the nurturing of a serial killer, acclaimed filmmaker Curtis Harrington’s (NIGHT TIDE, RUBY) THE KILLING KIND remains an unsettling depiction of violent mental illness. Featuring John Savage (THE DEER HUNTER), as Terry, in his first starring role, and lushly photographed by Mario Tosi (CARRIE), Vinegar Syndrome presents this unforgettable study in psychosis on Blu-ray for the first time, newly restored from its original 35mm camera negative.”
