Earlier this year it was announced that a sequel was in the work for the Groundhog Day-style slasher, Happy Death Day. Multiple sources have now reported that the official title for the film will be Happy Death Day 2 U and that it will arrive in theaters on Valentine's Day, February 14th, 2019.
Jessica Rothe will be returning as main character Tree Gelbman, with Israel Broussard returning as Tree's boyfriend, Carter Davis and Ruby Modine reprises her role as Lori Spengler. Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi) and Sarah Yarkin (“American Horror Story”) will also star.
Rothe told Collider a few months ago, “The sequel, the way he described it to me, elevates the movie from being a horror movie – and I wouldn’t even say it’s just a horror movie because it’s a horror, comedy, rom-com drama – into a Back to the Future type of genre film where the sequel joins us right from where we left off, it explains a lot of things in the first one that didn’t get explained, and it elevates everything.”
The first film's director, Christopher Landon will return to direct Happy Death Day 2 U. Producer Jason Blum will also return. Well keep CryptTeaze readers updated on the film as details emerge.
