'Southbound' And 'XX' Director Roxanne Benjamin To Write 'Night Of The Comet&#39

Orion Pictures has set Roxanne Benjamin, who created segments for Southbound and XX, to write a reimagining of the 1984 doomsday horror-comedy-sci-fi Night Of The Comet, as reported by Deadline.

Plot details have yet to be revealed, but he original film, directed by Thom Eberhardt, followed sisters Regina (Catherine Mary Stewart) and Samantha Belmont (Kelli Maroney) facing off against cannibal zombies after a comet wipes out most of life on Earth.

We are unsure if this remake will incorporate the same comedic elements contained in the '80s classic, but Deadline has noted that the film will focus on the sci-fi and horror elements of the apocalyptic story. It's also unknown if Benjamin will direct the remake, but with her experience behind the camera in the horror genre, we wouldn't be surprised if Orion gave her the chance to do so.

We will keep you updated on the project as it develops. The original film's trailer has been posted below for those of you who are unfamiliar with it.
