Said to be "the darkest season yet," Season 3 of "Stranger Things" will be set in the summer of 1985, less than a year after the events of season 2. With the third season set to premiere on Netflix in the Summer of 2019, we're chomping at the bit for any possible news regarding the new season.
The newly launched book, Stranger Things: Worlds Turned Upside Down: The Official Behind-the-Scenes Companion teases a few details of the much-anticipated season, with the latest revealed being the influences. Relayed by ScreenRant, the Duffer brothers stated that the new season will be influenced by George A. Romero, David Cronenberg, and John Carpenter's The Thing!
“There are horror movies and horror masters that we haven’t really paid tribute to as much in previous seasons that we are definitely going to get into this season.”
The book also notes that the Mind Flayer from Season 2 will also be present in Season 3.
The Mind Flayer hasn't lost interest in Hawkins either. The tentacled creature continues to loom near Hawkins inside the Upside Down, and its malevolent influence isn't absent from the new season. "We ended season two with a clear signal that the Shadow Monster was not eliminated, and maybe he's even identified his foe," says [producer Shawn] Levy. "And that darkness, and the battle that it will require, grows in season three."
