Not only is Guillermo del Toro producing a Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark movie based on the books, there's also a documentary in the works. Titled Scary Stories, Deadline has reported that Wild Eye Releasing has nabbed rights to the doc, which they'll be releasing some time next year.
The documentary is directed by Cody Meirick and features interviews with Alvin Schwartz’s family, R.L. Stine, as well as other authors, artists and fans.
“The three-volume series, written by Schwartz and illustrated by Stephen Gammell from 1981-1991, featured short horror stories for kids that were adapted from folklore and urban legends — it was the intro to the genre for a swath of kids in that generation. Some parent groups and school boards had the books pulled from libraries and schools owing to Gammell’s sometimes violent illustrations.”
We'll keep you posted on more details and a release date when they're avaialbe!
