Ben Wheatley Directing New Adaptation Of Gothic Novel 'Rebecca' For Netflix

Previously adapted in 1940 by Alfred Hitchcock, Daphne du Maurier’s gothic novel Rebecca is getting a new adaptation from director Ben Wheatley (Kill List, High Rise), Variety reports.

The film will be directed for Netflix and Working Title, Wheatley has set Armie Hammer and Lily James (Baby Driver) to star in the film.

Written by Jane Goldman, the film follows a newly married young woman who, upon arriving at her husband’s imposing family estate on a bleak English coast, finds herself battling the shadow of his deceased first wife, the mysterious Rebecca, whose legacy continues to haunt the house.

Production begins Spring 2019. Working Title’s Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan will produce along with Nira Park.
