Easily one of the most hotly anticipated films of 2019 is Paramount Pictures' upcoming Are You Afraid of the Dark?, an adaptation of the popular Nickelodeon anthology series that aired during the '90s.
Bloody Disgusting exclusively reports that director D.J. Caruso is "in talks" to helm the film that is being written by IT writer Gary Dauberman, who says that the film will “honor the darker, scarier tone of the show.”
Caruso's previous directorial credits include Disturbia, The Disappointments Room, and xXx: Return of Xander Cage.
The show revolved around a group of teenagers who referred to themselves as The Midnight Society. Every week, at a secret location in the woods, one members would tell a scary story to the rest of the group, some of which were based on public domain fairy tales, short stories or urban legends. The film will tell a completely new story from The Midnight Society.
Paramount has scheduled the film to release in theaters on October 11th, 2019. If Caruso is locked in as director we should begin to see some casting updates.
