Steve Dash, Who Played Jason In 'Friday The 13th Part 2' Has Passed Away

Before obtaining his signature hockey mask in Part 3, Jason Voorhees donned a sack over his head in Friday the 13th Part 2. One of the actors under the mask in the sequel was Steve Dash, who help create one of the most memorable iterations of the Crystal Lake killer, and it's with great sadness that we report on Dash's passing at the age of 74.

We had learned a couple weeks ago that Dash had been hospitalized due to complications with diabetes, and the Monster Mania convention confirmed his passing yesterday.

In a recent Facebook update, Dash seemed in good spirits in spite of his ailing health, “I have an update on my condition. They’re amputating my left leg tomorrow afternoon. It’s been pretty tough suffering from diabetes, blood clots and a bad heart over the last year. I welcome the decision I’ve made because I will be able to play golf in 6-8 weeks with a brand new leg. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and personal messages to me. The fans are the best fans on the planet.”

A regular on the horror convention circuit, Steve Daskewisz (Dash) always took the time to chat with fans and show his appreciation for the horror community. Dash, being the first actor to portray adult Jason Voorhees, was essential in creating the intimidating appearance of the masked killer that would continue to stalk and slash through many more films to come.

In addition to Friday the 13th Part 2, Dash also starred in Alone in the Dark, 13 Tzameti and Mr. Hush. He also provided stunt work for Ghostbusters and was set to star in the upcoming fan film Friday the 13th Vengeance.

Steve Dash's loss is a big one for the horror community and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts go out to his friends and family during this tough time.
