Even more sad news for the horror community, as we've learned that actor Donald Moffat has passed away at the age of 87, only six days before his 88th birthday. Horror fans will know him as M.T. Gary, Commander of Outpost 31 in John Carpenter's The Thing. The New York Times reports his death was caused by complications from a recent stroke.
Moffat delivered one of the best lines during The Thing's iconic blood test scene: "I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time, I'd rather not spend the rest of this winter tie to this fucking couch!"
Born December 26th, 1930 in Plymouth, Devon, England, the prolific English actor's career can be traced all the way back to the mid-'50s. The actor appeared in a number of other genre projects like "Night Gallery," The Terminal Man, "Logan's Run" (the TV series), Exo-Man, The Right Stuff, and Monster in the Closet.
Additionally, Moffat was nominated for the “Best Actor” Tony Award twice in 1967, for both Right You Are (If You Think You Are) and The Wild Duck.
The actor survived by his wife and four children.
