Clive Barker Gives Update On 'Nightbreed' TV Series

There's a lot going on in the Clive Barker universe as of late, we recently reported on an upcoming "Books of Blood" TV series and we leaned last summer that Barker's Nightbreed is also being adapted for the small screen. Last we heard, Josh Stolberg (Jigsaw, Piranha) had been brought on to adapt the 1990 film based on Barker's novel Cabal.

In a recent chat on the official Clive Barker website, Barker gave an update on the series.

“Nightbreed is moving forward at quite a rate with a couple of very well-known directors showing a great deal of interest in it,” said Barker. “I am on board to provide mythologies and ideas and hopefully put the Barkerian weirdness on the material. At the moment, we’re putting the team together: we have a writer, director, producers and now that the New Year has begun we’ll all get together and start to plan the long-term narrative, not just the opening narrative which is what we’ve done so far.”

He continued, “I have the sense that, if all the things that I’ve been promised come true, there is a real passion for matching the tone of both the book and the film.”

In the 1990 film, "An unstable mental patient who is falsely led to believe by his doctor that he is a serial killer. Tracked down by the police, his doctor, and his girlfriend Lori, Boone eventually finds refuge in an abandoned cemetery called Midian among a "tribe" of monsters and outcasts known as the "Nightbreed" where they hide from humanity."
