'The Grudge' Remake Will No Longer Be Released In 2019

Nicolas Pesce Grudge Remake Pushed Back

Possibly taking note of Escape Room's theatrical success this month, Sony have decided to push Nicolas Pesce‘s Grudge out of its mid-2019 release slot into an early January 2020 slot.

The film was originally planned to be released June 21st, 2019, but we've now learned that Sony has bumped it all the way back to January 3rd, 2020.

The film stars horror legend Lin Shaye, Andrea Riseborough, Demian Bichir (The Nun), and John Cho (“The Exorcist”), as well as Betty Gilpin (“Glow”), William Sadler (The Mist), Jacki Weaver and Frankie Faison.

Based on a script by Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train, Pet Sematary), Grudge is produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert for Ghost House with Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman executive producing for Good Universe. Schuyler Weiss, Roy Lee, Doug Davison, John Middleton, and Andrew Pfeffer also produce.

As most of you know, the 2004 film was a remake of the 2002 Japanese film Ju-On: The Grudge, which centers on a curse created when someone dies in rage or sorrow.

Check out the first still from the film below.
