Last month, UK distributor Second Sight Films officially announced that they would be releasing brand new versions of George A. Romero classics Dawn of the Dead and Martin, with both set to release later this year. We've gotten the full details from the company today and they reveal Dawn of the Dead is also getting the 4K UHD treatment!
Second Sight stated in a Facebook status, "Many thanks to producer Richard P Rubinstein for allowing us access to the original elements, which includes the original camera negative for Dawn and dupe negative for Martin."
Dawn of the Dead is coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK and will feature the Original, Unrated Theatrical Cut, Romero’s Pre-US Release Cannes Cut and Dario Argento’s Foreign Cut. The film will also receive a standard Blu-ray together with the Blu-ray release of Martin.
New 4K scans are underway at Final Frame in New York which will be followed by grading and extensive restoration supervised by Director of Photography Michael Gornick.
The mastering and encoding will be handled by David Mackenzie at Fidelity in Motion.
Currently slated for a late summer release, featuring brand new special features and more. Second Sight will announce further details soon via social media.
