It's safe to assume that if Happy Death Day 2U does well at the box office this week, we'll probably see a third entry in the Groundhog Day-esque slasher franchise. Even writer/director Christopher Landon stated in the past that he plans to make a trilogy out of Tree's time loop struggles.
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Landon revealed that an end credits sequence holds clues to Happy Death Day 3.
“There’s a big clue already in [Happy Death Day 2U]. There’s an end credit sequence, so people who stick around, they’ll see that,” Landon told EW. “But, beyond that, mum’s the word right now.”
He added, “I have more than an idea. I always imagined this as a trilogy, so I have the third movie, but it’s just a question of whether this one does well. I would love to make the third one. I think it’s a really bonkers, fun idea.”
Jessica Rothe returns as Tree Gelbman for the follow-up to Blumhouse's 2017 slasher hit. In Happy Death Day 2U, Tree realizes that what she went through in the first film was just a taste of what's to come!
The film releases in theaters on Wednesday, February 13th.
