Almost three decades before David Gordon Green's Halloween pit Laurie Strode and Michael Myers against one another in their "final confrontation," writers Larry Brand and Sean Hood had the same idea with 2002’s Halloween: Resurrection, though they chose to end the saga with Laurie's death at the hands of The Boogeyman.
Today, we're sad to learn that writer, director and producer Larry Brand has passed away at the age of 69. Deadline reports that Brand “died peacefully February 9 at his home in Hollywood.”
Years before scripting Resurrection, Brand worked as driver and production assistant to the legendary Orson Welles. In 1987, he began his own career with the psychological thriller Backfire, his first feature as a writer. Brand also collaborated with Roger Corman on multiple films including The Drifter, Masque of the Red Death, and Overexposed. He continued his career with award-winning films such as Paranoia, Christina and The Girl on the Train.
In addition to being a filmmaker, Brand was also an author. He survived by his brothers Tim Roth and Nick Roth, and his writing partner for 39 years Rebecca Reynolds.
