SYFY's 'Child's Play' Series Is Currently Titled 'Chucky,' Will Focus On New

With Orion gearing up to release their Child's Play remake in June, franchise creator Don Mancini will be continuing the original franchise with "Channel Zero" creator Nick Antosca in the form of a television series for SYFY. The project's current working title? "Chucky."

The working title is Chucky,” Antosca told Bloody Disgusting's Fred Topel over on Slash Film. "That could change, but that’s the working title.”

Antosca also noted that the series will lose the over-the-top comedic shenanigans that developed in later franchise entries, instead focusing on the tone of the earlier films.

“The series is going to be closer to the tone of the first two movies in the series though,” said Antosca. “It’s going to go back to a sort of classic scare.”

Mancini recently described the series as "a fresh take on the franchise," this suggests it will focus on a new story with new characters. Although, we do know that the series will exist within the continuity of Universal’s films.

“It’s consistent with that mythology, but it’s a whole new story,” Antosca told the site. “So you could come into it without knowing anything about the previous stuff and get into it. But it is consistent with all the mythology that has come before, so it is in canon.”

Antosca also states that Jennifer Tilly and Fiona Dourif are welcome to appear in the series.

Brad Dourif is expected to return as the voice of Chucky.
