It would seem that Nia DaCosta and producer Jordan Peele have secured their Daniel Robitaille, as Variety reports this afternoon that Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is in talks to play Candyman.
Unfortunately, this means Tony Todd will not be reprising the role of the titular character in next year's film, which is being described as a "spiritual sequel" Bernard Rose’s 1990 film.
The film returns to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.
Jordan Peele co-wrote the script with Win Rosenfeld.
Candyman is slated for a theatrical release on June 12th, 2020, with production planned to start this spring.
