The Festivities Begin In 'Hereditary' Director Ari Aster's 'Midsommar' Teaser Tr

Midsommar Teaser Trailer Ari Aster

One of our most highly anticipated films of the year comes from Ari Aster, the man behind one of last year's (and the last decade's) best films, Hereditary. His sophomore feature, titled Midsommar, has been described as a “Scandinavian folk horror film” and an "apocalyptic breakup movie." Set for release this August, today brings our first official look at the film.

Though most major details are being kept under wraps, we do know that the film centers on a Pagan cult festival that takes place once every ninety years, and despite the vibrant environment, it doesn't look like a fun place to be. Speaking of the color palette, unlike Hereditary, Midsommar looks to feature a lot more brightly lit, daylight scenes - but rest assured, there's a very unnerving, sinister tone.

The film stars Jack Reynor, Will Poulter and Florence Pugh with Vilhem Blomgren, William Jackson Harper, Ellora Torchia and Archie Madekwe.

“Pugh and Reynor will play a couple that travels to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.”

A24 will release the film in theaters on August 9th, 2019.
