Last month, we brought our readers the news that special effects legend and all around horror master, John Carl Buechler, had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, and we've now learned the heartbreaking news that he has lost his battle. Buechler was 66.
Buechler's makeup effects work in the industry over the past few decades is downright unforgettable. Re-Animator, From Beyond, A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Master and Ghoulies are just a few of the fan favorite films he contributed his makeup talents to, and that's not even including his directorial efforts!
Most notably, John Carl Buechler directed Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, (aka may favorite entry in the franchise), which brought Kane Hodder into the role of Jason Voorhees and reimagined the character with a totally badass new look! Troll, Cellar Dweller and Ghoulies Go to College are a few more of Buechler's directorial credits.
We extend our deepest sympathies to John's family and friends during this difficult time, you can help support them by donating to John's Go Fund Me page, which will help his wife take care of the substantial medical costs as a result of John's treatments.
